Sep 16 Fri Search and Care Charity picnics in Conservatory Gardens
Search and Care, a charitable organization which has taken the lead in rescuing senior citizens on the Upper East Side who have fallen into physical or financial difficulties, had its annual picnic around the pretty fountain pond of the Conservatory Gardens at 102 St and Fifth Avenue, opposite the Musee del Barrio and the Museum of the City of New York.
The end of summer festivities (from 11am-2pm on Sep 16) were helped along by salmon and tuna sandwiches contributed by Eli's and many winged visitors to the fountain took their afternoon baths while attractive young interns listened attentively to distinguished grantees such as Charles Mahlon, with a fine stock of stories drawn from his later career as aide de camp to the social elite, or watched and encouraged a woman who had trained her little dog to spin around on its hind legs on command, and to get into its tiny basket, when it proved more reluctant to do that.
