Jim McHugh, 64, is a California photojournalist who has specialized in taking portraits of painters for the cover of Architectural Digest and Art News and other publications covering the art world in the States, who is particularly known for his enduring friendship with David Hockney ever since his famous portrait of Hockney at the beginning of his (McHugh's) career. He flew from California to present this thorough view of slides of life's work to date and his latest book, a group of portraits of old time hotels in Los Angeles and their often gorgeous if broken neon signs.
