Despite the merry trio that met us on arrival at 11.20am at the Search and Care Annual Picnic at the Conservatory Gardens at 104 St and Fifth, the annual celebration of Search and Care's contribution to elderly welfare on the Upper East Side by rescuing scores of old people in trouble had stalled, owing to the inopportune selection of the fountain pond as a site for their ceremony by a wedding party. So the oldsters were benched along the arboreal arcade on the left side of the Conservatory Gardens meadow while they waited for the Pond to become available.
