Harold Varmus prepares for his blockbuster lecture for the Meyer Cancer Center seminar series in 2015 on the many, many unsolved mysteries about the notion that won him the Nobel prize, which he titles Confronting Cancer's Complexity. None of these gaps in knowledge and explanation in his opinion justify any reconsideration of the thirty year old paradigm that cancer arises from mutations or changes in the operations of specific oncogenes which causes specific cancers, even though it has proven very unfruitful in blocking or curing the malady.
