There is only one place to be in the afternoon on Christmas Eve, and that is the Church of the Heavenly Rest at either 3pm or 5pm, for the Pageant, where tiny tots dress up a angels and scamper up the aisle to the altar, where they await the slow progress of Mary seated upon a donkey led by Joseph, and when Mary is unmounted and takes her place by the manger, then sing en masse Christmas Carols and - the high point of the service - Silent Night.

The llama is the del;ightful oddity added in the last few years which takes the whole delightful experience over the top.
