MICHAEL KORDA:’s book “HERO” is the story of T.E. Lawrence, more popularly known as “Lawrence of Arabia.” Korda, the former Editor-in-Chief of Simon & Schuster, was one of the most influential people in book publishing for forty years, as well as the author of many books. His talk on the life of Lawrence, delineated in his biography, is the story of an epic life told on a grand scale of the extraordinary, mysterious and dynamic Englishman whose daring exploits and sun-burnished good looks made him an object of intense fascination forever personalized by the movie featuring Peter O’Toole.
The $36 tome "Hero" was sold at $20 at a table besieged by members after the publisher/author's forcefully articulate script and slide show of rare images and even two of the first ever war movie clips was over.
ENTERTAINMENT
Members were lucky enough to be entertained by the rich, vibrant tones of CATHERINE RUSSELL with Jon Weber, whose swinging energy did great credit to a handful of witty classics of American song writing. Scheduled performer was the superb DTer MAUDE MAGGART, in the midst of an acclaimed month-long engagement at The Algonquin Hotel’s Oak Room, joining us at Dutch Treat with selections from her show. It’s titled “Everybody’s Doin’ It.” Doin’ what? Falling in Love, falling out of love, looking for love, living life and celebrating it—Maude sings about it all. Said radio personality Jonathan Schwartz, “the iconic composers who created these melodies would be proud. She is, note for note, a faithful messenger of the great stuff.” Sadly, however, Maude was taken up by a family health emergency, and had to put off her appearance this time.
