Jan 18 Dutch Treat Club Aldon James speaks, Barbara Brussell sings and Jon Weber swings
Barbara and Jon play livewire intro to Aldon's pitch for arts as cultural oxygen
SPEAKER
DTer ALDON JAMES: will tell us some “TALES OF THE NATIONAL ARTS CLUB.” Some famous and (a few) infamous among the legendary personalities connected with the NAC. Aldon, 16th President of the Club, founded in 1898, has served as President for 25 years. He will discuss the Club’s remarkable history and some of its equally remarkable members, such as Sylvia Sidney and her pug, Malcolm, who resided in the Club. The Club’s mission has long been to “stimulate, foster and promote public interest in the arts and educate the American people in the fine arts” and the NAC has itself become an arts community on Gramercy Park. Come and hear an informed perspective on the Club and some of its larger than life personalities.
ENTERTAINMENT
DTer BARBARA BRUSSELL, cabaret star born, bred and based in California, has headlined on stages coast-to-coast, including New York’s Oak Room and Town Hall. The NewYork Observer’s Rex Reed called her “a singer with wit, style, warmth, drive and impeccable musical taste,” while Stephen Holden of The New York Times hailed her as a singer in whom “the California dreamer and the New York sophisticate join hands.” Returning to New York for brief appearances, Barbara takes our stage to share her distinctive music-making.
